Vision for The Future of Barraba
The Barraba Community Development Committee (CDC) is looking to develop a Vision for the Future of Barraba.
With the Pipeline only a few short years away, and in anticipation of the benefits it will bring, the CDC is calling for expressions of interest from both community groups and individuals in the community, to help formulate a plan to secure Barraba's future.
Issues that have already been discussed at the CDC include the development of employment opportunities for young people and families living in Barraba. One example of this would be the upgrade of the Spion Kop Road to Maules Creek, which would provide opportunities for mine workers to live in Barraba and commute to the mine. Other opportunities may include renewable energy farms, development of the poultry industry and a planned Grey Nomad Park. Any increase in the population of the town and surrounds will go a long way to ensuring the long term viability and security of Barraba.
Another issue being discussed by the CDC is the development of a One Stop Shop, to include the Council Office, the Visitor Information Centre, and the Library, as well as including a community meeting room, space for the Barraba Band, and possibly the Museum too. Access to the National Broadband Network will also be an important part of the future of Barraba.
If you have any thoughts, ideas or suggestions for discussion by the CDC to help formulate this Vision, please feel welcome to come along to the next CDC meeting on Monday 6th February at 6pm at the Council Chambers in Alice Street, or email the Secretary at boccadice@yahoo.com.au, or mail to PO Box 57 Barraba NSW 2347.
